Plant Details & Care
Bourreria succulenta, commonly known as Bahama Strongbark, is a handsome evergreen shrub or small tree valued for its dense canopy of glossy, dark green foliage and clusters of fragrant white flowers that appear throughout much of the year. The blooms are followed by bright orange fruits that provide seasonal color and attract a variety of birds and other wildlife. Native to South Florida, the Caribbean, and the Bahamas, this durable species typically reaches 10–20 feet tall but can be maintained at a smaller size with occasional pruning. Bahama Strongbark thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils, exhibiting excellent drought and salt tolerance once established. Its attractive form, low-maintenance nature, and adaptability make it an outstanding choice for tropical landscapes, coastal gardens, and native plantings. (Pot size: 1 gallon)

Yes! Every single plant we sell is grown at our Nursery in Miami, Florida, by Fairchild’s horticulturists and volunteers.

Our plant experts are constantly testing and propagating new plants suitable for South Florida’s conditions with the goal of making them available for you to purchase. We grow plants for a variety of reasons, including rarity, pollinator attracting, native, fruit- or flower-bearing, uniqueness, beauty and more!
Can I Visit the Nursery?
While our nursery facilities are not open to the public, we do make a large selection of plants available for purchase online, in person at the Shop at Fairchild and multiple times throughout the year during plant sales. Check our plants sales calendar here.
Do You Deliver or Can I Pick Up My Order?
Both! We deliver locally within 15 miles of Fairchild, and you can also pick up your plants in person at the Garden.
When Will I Receive My Order?
Local Deliveries: Please note that we currently only deliver on the weekend. You will automatically receive updates as we process your order.
Pick Up: Orders may be picked up to 5 days from the Shop at Fairchild. You will automatically receive updates as we process your order.
Handling: Orders are typically readied for delivery or pick-up the week after receipt of your order.
Do You Ship?
We now offer international shipping on select products available in our Nationwide Shipping collection. Restrictions may apply.
Will My Plant Look Exactly Like the Photos?
Our photos show various specimens for reference. Product listings also include an image showing the approximate size of the plant you will receive. Each plant is unique, and variations in color, size, and form are natural.

Yes! Fairchild Members receive 10% off each purchase. Members must enter the promo code at checkout.
Are There Limitations for the Use of Discount/Promo Codes?

What is Your Return or Replacement Policy?
Due to the delicate nature of live plants, we are unable to accept returns.
While we are confident you’ll love your plant(s), if you are dissatisfied with your purchase, please email plants@fairchildgarden.org with clear photos within 48 hours of delivery or pick-up so that we may immediately assist you and evaluate your concern.
