Large, shiny, attractive leaves form a not-so-dense canopy that allows some light to pass through. Trees are typically taller than broad. Flowers are tiny and yellow-green with a sticky nectar disk that is attractive to insects, which in turn makes this tree a bird magnet when flowering. Fruits are dry 3-seeded capsules that may audibly pop as they dry, releasing the seeds when brown. A native to Everglades National Park and the Florida Keys , coffee colubrina can also be found in the West Indies and tropical Americas.
