Medinilla myriantha

Often called Malaysian Orchid despite not being related to orchids, this beautiful flowering epiphyte from Southeast Asia is a wonderful ornamental for South Florida and one of the easiest Medinilla to grow. It also has promise as a houseplant. It is a prolific bloomer putting out cascading clusters of pink flowers for much of the year. These mature into purple berries that hang down. It needs good drainage and regular water during dry periods. It is best grown as an epiphyte or as a container plant, but can also be grown successfully in a raised bed with well drained soil.
