Donkey Ears is a fast growing perennial in the family Crassulaceae from rocky areas of Madagascar. The thick succulent leaves are splotched with maroon-brown spots and form plantlets at their margins. Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri produces a terminal inflorescence with clusters of pale peach-colored buds that darken and become the calyxes that hold the darker reddish-salmon colored petals. The flowering process lasts for about 2 months at which point the "mother plant" begins to decline, but the many plantlets on the leaves begin to develop rapidly. Use in a hanging basket, as a specimen or as a mass planting in a dry garden. Prefers full sun to partial shade. Let the soil dry out between waterings. (Pot size: 1.5 gallons)
