Spanish stopper is a small tree native to Florida, the West Indies, Mexico and Central America. It can reach a height of 20 feet tall and can be found as an understory tree in hardwood hammocks but can easily tolerate an open full sun location. The dense foliage and tiny dark purple berries provide excellent shelter and food for wildlife. Tiny white multi-staminate flowers bloom in the summer, sometimes more than once. The name "stopper" is derived from the plants medicinal use by early Florida settlers to cure diarrhea. Plant in light shade or full sun. (Pot size: 3 gallon)
