Barleria lupulina

'Hop-Headed Barleria' is a perennial shrub that reaches a height of about 5 feet tall. It is in the family Acanthaceae and occurs in Southeast Asia. The foliage is dark green, linear-oblong and has a red midrib. The stems are highly branched and spiny. Spines occur in the leaf axils. Yellow, tubular flowers are arranged in a spike inflorescence. Barleria lupulina is a popular medicinal plant in India. Prefers full sun, moderate water and well-drained soil. (Pot size: 1 gallon)
