Aristolochia salvadorensis

This is a fascinating shrub from Central America that produces the amazing 'Darth Vader flower'. These flowers look like masks with two prominent round 'eyes' and a serious 'nose'. These strange flowers are also held in a strange way:  horizontal shoots grow out of the base of the plant and the flowers lay on the ground. Its leaves are long and narrow. Its maximum height in nature is 11ft, but it is likely to be smaller in South Florida. It can be pruned to taste and kept small. It is an understory plant and does best in part shade. So far it is growing well outdoors in South Florida. (Pot size: 3 gallon)
