This is a beautiful large rooted offset of the oldest plant in the entire Fairchild collection, a very special individual of Dioon edule. This plant came from Mexico to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in the mid-19th century and was already large and old at that time. After travelling from Edinburgh to Wisconsin and then Florida, it was donated to the Garden to help build the cycad collection. It has grown into a large and impressive specimen in the Garden and is at least 200 years old. This is truly a piece of botanic garden history.
