Dendrophylax fawcettii

Dendrophylax fawcettii, also known as the 'Cayman Ghost Orchid', is a rare and endangered orchid species endemic to the Caribbean, specifically the Cayman Islands. It is closely related to the more famous Dendrophylax lindenii, known as the 'Ghost Orchid'.  Dendrophylax fawcettii in appearance has thin white blooms with long spurs and a subtle apple fragrance. The plant itself has a very reduced stem and scale-like leaves, with most of the plant’s structure being its roots. This species is challenging to grow and requires very specific conditions, including very high humidity, moderate light, and pure water (rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis). It grows slowly and is not recommended for beginners. Given its specific care requirements and slow growth, Dendrophylax fawcettii is not recommended as a gift plant unless the recipient is experienced in orchid care.
