A member of the family Zingiberaceae,  Pleuranthodium schlechteri is a rhizomatous geophyte(a plant typically with underground storage organs, where the plants hold energy and water) and grows in the wet tropical biome of Papua New Guinea (Torricelli Mountains). This is an attractive dwarf ginger with dark green leaves clasping red stems. The stems grow to about three feet high and form dense clusters. It does well in part shade and well-draining soil.
