Native to Florida, the Caribbean, and Central and South America, myrsine is commonly encountered in natural areas of South Florida, and is most easily recognized by its flowers and fruits that are borne along the stem of the previous year’s growth. Myrsine is mostly dioecious, with separate male and female plants. Small purple-black berries are eaten by birds and other wildlife. Plant in light shade or full sun.
