Synsepalum dulcificum

'Miracle Fruit' is an evergreen shrub originating from West Africa, that reaches a height from 6-15 feet, has dense foliage, white flowers and produces a berry, that when eaten, causes sour foods subsequently consumed to taste sweet. The berry has a low sugar content and contains a glycoprotein molecule that binds to the tongue's taste buds, causing sour foods to taste sweet. Synsepalum dulcificum grows best in acidic soils in partial shade with high humidity. In South Florida, where the soil is more alkaline, it is best to grow in a pot. (Pot size: 3 gallon)
