This is a favorite tree found along beaches and in coastal forests throughout the tropical Americas. It thrives in these rough-and-tumble, storm-battered habitats, recovering and resprouting whenever it gets knocked over. A member of the buckwheat family, it produces fruits that look superficially similar to grapes. Sometimes used to make jelly, the fruits are attractive to birds and other wildlife. Sea grape makes a great ornamental plant, with unmistakable stiff leaves that have contrasting red veins. (Pot size: 3 gallon)
