‘African Iris’ is a rhizomatous perennial native to Southern and Eastern Africa, reaching a height of 2 to 4 feet and a spread of 2 to 3 feet. Dietes iridioides blooms May through September, with flowers lasting one day, but quickly replaced with new blooms. Flowering occurs in bloom bursts that seem to occur at 2 week intervals, sometimes being called the ‘Fortnight Lily’ because of this. Flowers are white with yellow and blue markings. It produces fan-shaped clumps of narrow, sword-shaped, evergreen leaves. This plant is easily grown in moist, well-drained soils and full sun to part shade. (Pot size: 1 gallon)
